Lumas - A gallery that promises to ‘liberate art' opens in Dubai
LUMAS Gallery, which opened today at the world’s largest shopping mall – The Dubai Mall, promises to change the way people in the Middle East think about buying art.
Founded in Germany in 2004, LUMAS has 40 galleries around the world, and adds a fresh perspective to the UAE’s art landscape, bridging the gap between high-end pieces and framed reproductions.
“The UAE has an incredibly diverse population with a keen interest in acquiring affordable and original photography and contemporary art. The LUMAS concept fills the gap in the market by targeting the ‘middle ground’ between fine-art pieces and mass-produced prints, liberating art from the constraints of exorbitant price tags, while delivering high quality, collectible works,” said Paul Marks, General Manager, LUMAS Middle East.
“Our passion for delivering extremely high resolution art photography marks a departure from buying off-the-self highly duplicated art. It gives our guests an opportunity to own a unique limited edition, signed-by-the artist artwork for the very first time.
Visitors to the new LUMAS gallery in Dubai Mall will experience a new interior design concept of ‘The Collector’s Home’ – in which artworks are displayed in distinctive areas, such as a living room, a kitchen or study situation, to create an atmosphere that is similar to a private home. Within this concept the LUMAS portfolio is rotated and changed on a regular basis and special exhibitions are shown, focusing on single artists or specific themes.
Some of the the LUMAS collection available at Dubai Mall include:
· Till Death Do Us Part, Damien Hirst
· Black Antoinette Tulip, Olaf Hajek
· Solar Aguiar IV, Wermer Pawlok
· Love Me Forever, Yves Saint Laurent Atelier, Patrick Demarchelier
LUMAS gallery is now open at The Dubai Mall at the First level from December 08 from 10 am – 11 pm from Sunday – Wednesday, and from 10am – 12am from Thursday until Saturday. LUMAS gallery is also set to open early 2016 at CITY WALK Dubai and The Galleria Abu Dhabi.
