Inside INDIA

Where the Nizam's come from..

I recently took a trip down to Hyderabad, the capital of Andhra Pradesh. This was my third trip to the city known for its Nawabi effect, paradise biryani and karachi biscuits. Every time I go there I get to explore something new.

The reason for this trip was a cousins wedding, but I'm not the one to sit indoors all day so I sneaked out at every chance I got making sure no one realises I only attended the first 15 minutes of the ladies sangeet. Having covered major places like Ramoji Film city, eat street, Birla madir, snow park, NTR gardens in my pervious trips, I wanted to focus on exploring the historic side of the city. To my disappointment that did not happen, after all I had to show my face at every function of the wedding. I did however get a chance (thanks to my best friend) to view the scenic landscape that is visible on the outer ring road soon after exiting the airport. I spent my first evening exploring the new part of Hyderabad called Hi-tech city, while making my way to the old city. After meeting the bride and the rest of the wedding party I ditched the house party for an elegant evening by the water front at 'The Water Front,' which served some mouth watering nizami tikkas that we could not get enough of! The dinner was followed by a walk outside on the patio, which was the perfect way to end the night.

The next few days were spent going up and down the city for various wedding functions, I did get a chance to feast on the famous Biryani from paradise, which in my opinion is not worth the hype, it was rather bland, but still pulls in the crowds. Another place that is synonymous with Hyderabad is Karachi Bakery which serves up a mean fruit biscuit in addition to a delicious cashew biscuit. My family packed on atleast 15 kg of biscuits from that store, the fruits biscuits came out to be a clear winner with nine. A trip to the local markets and a bit of shopping bought my trip to an end (Though the city is famous for its fresh water pearls, I had to hold myself back since I already have enough!). I guess I will need yet another trip to the city that houses the Indian headquarters for companies like Google and Deloitte to explore Charminaar and Golconda forts amongst other.

In one word.....GOA!!

  1. This was such an uncontrived account - countering the hypes, reaffirming some myths and legends, and most importantly inspiring the reader to take the next possible mode of transport and experience the charms of the Nawabi city Hyderabad. Just plain loved it.
